In the busyness of daily life, the mind is often drawn outward by responsibilities, distractions, and constant activity. This retreat offers an opportunity to pause, simplify, and reconnect with a quieter and more mindful way of living.
Guided by Venerable Shi Chuan Jia, this one-day retreat introduces the practice of the Eight Precepts in a gentle and approachable manner. Rather than viewing the precepts as rigid rules, participants are encouraged to experience them as practical supports for cultivating calmness, awareness, and inner clarity.
Through mindful living, guided reflections, meditation, and periods of silence, participants will explore how ethical restraint can help settle the mind and create the conditions for wisdom and inner peace to arise naturally.
Suitable for both beginners and experienced practitioners, the retreat requires no prior experience. To support meaningful learning and attentive guidance, the retreat maintains a smaller and more conducive learning environment, allowing for a comfortable pace and closer support throughout the day.
Guidance is offered step by step in a warm and supportive environment, helping participants practise with ease, without pressure or expectation.
Whether you are exploring the Eight Precepts for the first time or seeking to deepen your practice, this retreat offers a meaningful opportunity to slow down, reflect, and experience the quiet joy of mindful living. A simple vegetarian lunch will be provided.

About the organiser
We are a contemporary Buddhist community committed to making the Dharma accessible in English. While many Mahāyāna teachings are traditionally shared in Mandarin, our Vihāra offers a space where practitioners can explore Buddhist wisdom in a language that speaks to them. By blending traditional teachings with modern perspectives, we aim to make Buddhist practice both accessible and relevant in today’s world.
At the heart of our community is a shared dedication to learning and practising the Dharma together. We uphold core Buddhist values such as mindfulness, ethical living, and selfless service. Through study, meditation, and compassionate action, we support one another on the path of inner transformation.
